VICE-PRINCIPAL
GREATER GATINEAU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The Western Québec School Board (WQSB) is seeking a dynamic and dedicated educational leader to be the Vice-Principal of Greater Gatineau Elementary School. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Principal and will be instrumental in fostering collaboration between staff, students and parents/guardians, ensuring that each student receives a high quality education in a safe, fair and compassionate environment. The candidate will support, develop and maintain the vision and values of Greater Gatineau Elementary School through the school’s Educational Project and School Success Plan.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or relevant field of study, or, hold a senior staff position in a board or school;
- Five years of pertinent elementary school experience in a teaching or non-teaching professional position;
- Permanent Québec teaching qualification;
- Must have, or be willing to complete within two years, six credits at the Masters level in an Administration Programme.
Candidates will demonstrate evidence of:
Educational Leadership
- Supports all staff professional development and promotes growth mindset;
- Ability to motivate school staff in the creation and sustaining of school environments that optimize student learning;
- Encouraging and inspiring others to create and contribute to a positive workplace culture;
- A thorough understanding of current curriculum at the primary level and learning strategies including personalized learning, technology in education and special education including behaviour management;
- Displaying courage in his/her work, persevering towards accomplishing goals in the face of challenge;
- Encouraging continuing education and demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning;
- Valuing and practicing shared/distributed leadership in a bilingual setting while assisting the Principal with day-to-day operations of the school.
Relationship Building
- Ability to build relationships of trust through open and transparent communication;
- Working respectfully with a wide group of stakeholders, ensuring that he/she is accessible and approachable to others;
- Soliciting the input of others who are affected by plans or actions and gives credit and recognition to others who have contributed;
- Ability to balance the needs and demands of various groups that the school community is composed of including unions, parents, management, teachers and students.
Conflict Resolution
- Identifying areas of agreement when working with conflicting individuals or groups;
- Being well grounded in, and able to clearly express a coherent educational philosophy with a corresponding set of guiding principles;
- Commitment to the values of collaboration, respect and diversity and their impact on the development of children;
- Familiarity with multiple conflict resolution strategies.
Communication
- Ability to break down complex concepts and orally present them in a consistent, engaging and understandable manner to a variety of partners;
- Engaging to the perspective of others – open to a wide group of opinions;
- Actively listening before drawing conclusions;
- Being a bilingual administrator as an asset to the community.
Knowledge
- The Basic School Regulation, the Québec Education Act and the Québec Education Program;
- Theory and practice in Special Education, Attachment Theory, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL);
- Technology and the role it plays in education;
- WQSB Policies (e.g. safe schools, technology, transport);
- Student performance data, target setting, and initiatives as they relate to school improvement and the school’s Management and Educational Success Agreement;
- Collective agreements of employee groups within the school.
Working Conditions:
- Working conditions and salary determined by R.R.C.E.M. (Regulation Respecting Condition of Employment of Management Staff);
- The probation period is two years.

$65, 810 to $87,744 annually (based on education and experience)
